About The Independent Vintner

 

The Independent Vintner was set up by Giles Smith Walker with over 14 years’ experience in the wine trade. It was a harvest in Champagne that ignited his calling into the trade and from working for a small family company Giles spent the next 12 years at Berry Bros & Rudd in retail, selling to private clients and managing the private and corporate hospitality department.

“Giles arranged a tour of the left and right bank over 3 days for me and 2 friends. The itinerary he put together was fantastic including not only vineyards but also dinner each night in the city of Bordeaux. Giles was a wealth of knowledge far beyond the wines also including local history and some British / French conflict history. It would have been very easy to book this trip via a hotel and arrange standard day tours at some traditional vineyards. I chose going with Giles who got us access and time with the wine makers, vineyard owners and others. We even managed to have lunch with the wine producers either on the vineyard or nearby.

If you are looking for a more intimate tour of Bordeaux and keen to learn more about the region and the wine making process, I would recommend going with Giles. I in fact, intend to do another trip with him to Burgundy.”
